Using Voltara Intelligence · Reference

Glossary

The words the app uses, in plain language. Every lesson in this course uses them this way. Checked against the app and its current code.

The app and your access

Access level
One of four: site, plant, corporate, admin. Your job title maps to one, and it decides your plants, your menu and your work-order steps.
Role chip
The badge in the top bar showing the level you are using now.
Plant, site, fleet
A plant is one power station. “Site” also means a plant in everyday speech, and is the name of the lowest access level. The fleet is all plants together.
Navigation group
One of the headings on the left rail (Live Ops, Intelligence, Voltara Agents, Knowledge, Maintenance Hub, Safety Center, Finance, Asset Vault, People). Site-level menus use shorter names (Maintenance, Safety, Assets).
Module
One screen in a group, such as the Work Order Center. About 70 in total.
2FA (two-factor authentication)
A 6-digit code from an authenticator app, asked for after your password. It comes with 10 single-use backup codes; the app has no administrator reset, so keep them safe.
The yellow line at the top of dashboards naming plants whose data is stale (late) or missing. Read it before any number.
Geofence
The boundary around a plant: at least 4 km from it, more for large sites. You can only check in inside it.

Work

Work order (WO)
The record of one job on a plant: what, where, who, when, the permit, the parts, the hours and the photos.
Work-order ladder
Created → approved → assigned → in progress → completed → verified → closed. On hold and cancelled sit beside it.
Work types
PM (preventive), CM (corrective), Breakdown, Predictive, Emergency, Inspection, Module Cleaning, Vegetation.
Priority and SLA
Priority sets the deadline (the SLA, service level agreement): critical 4 hours, high 1 day, medium 3 days, low 7 days, counted from when the job is raised.
Approval levels
A job may need up to three sign-offs, depending on its cost and priority. High priority needs at least two; critical or emergency needs three. You can never approve your own job.
Verify
A second person confirms finished work was done properly. It must not be the person who did it.
PM (preventive maintenance)
Planned work on a schedule, generated from task templates and released in PM rounds (Daily, Routine, Periodic), one work order per round.
Alarm
A warning raised from plant data, a rule, or by hand. A critical alarm with no job after 30 minutes is given one at the next automatic run (an open job on the same asset is reused, otherwise a new one is created).
P1 to P4
Alarm priority, set by the app from severity and type. P1: every critical alarm, the only priority the app chases. P2: warnings about equipment health, safety or the battery. P3: other warnings. P4: information.
Acknowledge (Ack)
Taking ownership of an alarm. Records your name and the time, and stops the one-hour chase.
Shelve
Muting an open alarm for a set time (1 minute to 7 days), with a reason. It comes back by itself.
Suppress
Removing an alarm from the active list permanently. Admin only.
RCA, FMEA
Root cause analysis (why did it fail?) and failure mode and effects analysis (how could it fail, and how badly?).

Safety

Safety gate
The rule that a work order cannot be started, completed or closed while any of its safety items is still open. Only a corporate or admin user can override it, for one step, in a recorded emergency: a written reason of at least 40 characters, never by the assigned technician, lasting 4 hours by default and 8 at most.
PTW (permit to work)
Written permission to do a hazardous job, approved before work starts and closed after.
LOTO (lockout tagout)
Isolating equipment and locking it so it cannot be switched on while someone works on it.
JHA, RA
Job hazard analysis and risk assessment: what could hurt someone on this job, and what is done about it.
Toolbox talk
A short safety briefing with the crew before the job, recorded with attendees.
Reservation
Parts held on the shelf for one work order, so no other job can take them. Plant level and above.
Issue
Taking a part out of stores against a work order; it is booked to that job at its price. Book each part once (Lesson 7).
Purchase request (PR, requisition)
A request to buy. Raised by site, plant or admin; approved by corporate or admin, 1 to 3 levels by value. PR-AUTO-… ones are drafted by the app at the reorder level.
Purchase order (PO)
The order sent to a supplier, converted from an approved request.
Goods receipt (GRN)
The record of what was actually delivered against a PO; part deliveries are allowed, more than ordered is refused.
Three-way match
The app's check of a supplier invoice against the order and the goods received. A mismatch (for example over-billed) needs a finance override with a reason.
Logbook (daily log)
SCADA Intelligence → Logbook: one row of figures per plant per day. Typed rows are stored as typed and start as pending approval.
Provisional
On a report: built partly from daily rows nobody has approved yet.
Coverage
How many days (or plant-days) of real data sit behind a period figure. Tiles rarely show it; reports and the Logbook do.
Voltara Agent
A program that watches one area (performance, HSE, stock…) and, in Act mode, raises work orders itself. Its jobs say “Raised automatically by the … Agent”.
Decision Board
Voltara Agents → Decision Board: the agents' findings for you to Authorise, Reject (with a reason), mark Seen or Snooze. Rejecting does not cancel a job already raised.
Static Template
The label on an AI work-order draft made without an AI model: a fixed template for the equipment type, not an assessment.
LTI
Lost time injury. “LTI-free days” counts days since the last one.

Performance

MTD, YTD
Month to date, year to date.
MWp, MWh
Megawatt peak is the size of the solar array. Megawatt hour is energy produced.
PR (performance ratio)
How much of the sunlight's potential the plant turned into energy, in percent. A daily PR above 100% means a measurement is wrong, not that the plant did well. Check it: energy (MWh) ÷ (capacity (MWp) × irradiance (kWh/m²)).
Availability
The share of time the plant could produce. Not to be confused with technician availability (who is free to work).
CUF
Capacity utilisation factor: energy produced compared with running at full AC capacity all day.
Irradiance, POA
Sunlight reaching the panels (plane of array). Measured by a plant sensor, or estimated by a weather service; screens say which.
Curtailment
Energy the plant could have made but the grid did not accept.
Soiling
Loss from dust and dirt on panels.
SCADA
The plant's own control and monitoring system; the app reads data from it or from the inverter maker's cloud.
BESS
Battery energy storage system.
